Michael Williams -
John Wilkes Booth & Other Overachievers
25 March - 18 April
Michael Williams sets himself up behind an easel when I enter the Ladies Lounge at the Forum, and he is by it's side for the entire time he is up on stage. Williams considers himself a bit of a failure after his first festival show (he has the graph to prove it), so a research project into John Wilkes Booth finds that he may not be as bad as he thinks he is. With hand-drawn animations throughout and a soft spoken style, Williams is reminiscent of Demetri Martin, although without the clever wordplay. Not all the jokes are hits, but I can only see Williams getting better from here.
