Another late-night gem hidden away at the festival, Sarah Bennetto has brought one of London's monthly comedy institutions, the Storytellers' Club, to Melbourne for the month of April.
The Storytellers' Club brings in special guests from all over the festival to tell stories - any stories they like, really. On the night I was in attendance, the stories included those of local legend Tommy Dassalo, who regaled us with the debauchery that must inevitably happen when his parents told him "don't throw a party". Courtney Hocking revealed her love of Bruce Springsteen. James Dowdeswell confounded the police with his inability to operate a motor vehicle. And Zoe Lyons told us of the time she accidentally became a drug smuggler. At The Storytellers' Club, the lights are low, and the stories are told with a louche charm that really makes you feel like you're holed up in a speakeasy, hearing brilliant stories from great yarn-spinners.
It's a unique, intimate experience, and one you should experience at least once. I know I'll be back.
