Now in its 17th year Class Clowns is Melbourne International Comedy Festival's competition and education program for young people. Around Australia students in Years 9-12 can compete to be named funniest of them all – and perhaps launch themselves on a journey like that of previous Class Clown-ers Josh Thomas (Talkin’ ‘bout Your Generation), Tom Ballard (triple j), Kynan Barker (writer for Rove) and Joel Creasey or Danny McGinlay.

Class Clowns aims to:
• Help kids develop their comic writing and performance skills
• Provide recognition and exposure of budding comedy talent
• Enable young people to work with and learn from professional comedians
• Build appreciative comedy audiences for the future
We do this through:
• A national secondary schools Class Clowns competition
• Crash Course workshops in schools
'It’s sickening to see how far ahead these guys already are - they’ve already conquered first gig nerves and they can’t even drive. I got to work with some of these students in the Queensland workshops and it was awesome to see how committed they are to their comedy.'
-Sammy J, 2010 Class Clowns National Final Judge
