Best Of British is basically a showcase of stand-up comics playing this year's Melbourne International Comedy Festival.
If their first matinee show is anything to go by, it's capable of busting out everything from blue humor, to spirit-guide sessions, to magic tricks, to... Americans. Indeed, Best Of British is very much a mixed bag and is better for it.
The allure of Best Of British is tied up in its numbers game: with four to five acts gracing the Exford each night, it's more than likely you'll leave the venue clinging tight to a couple of sensational routines at the very least. It's a very efficient way for a punter to determine what they're into and what they'd really rather avoid this festival season. For that reason, it's a go-to-showcase for those not entirely comic-savvy.
As its line-up tends to alter from show to show, it's difficult to stamp Best of British with a definitive rating. If it's always as funny, as varied and has as much to offer as its first matinee, though, then that's more than enough reason for punters to get along to the Exford.
