Review by Nick Taras
Full disclosure: I've had a thing for John Conway's comedy for a while now, and I find myself laughing at almost anything he does. It's so stupid and wacky and there's just no-one like him. And Dayne Rathbone as a sidekick is unbelievable. I went to opening night so some of the problems had to be ironed out, but Conway has a way of turning any problem into comedy. For example, one of the audience members – a bikie-looking dude – clearly wasn't enjoying it. Conway isn't for everyone – this must be stressed. At the end of the show, Conway asked people to tell others if they enjoyed it, to which the bikie guy responded, 'You wouldn't want my friends coming down here'. Many comedians would freeze at this point – he was quite threatening and scary – but Conway just made fun of him much to the delight of the entire audience. Ballsy. The budget and overall show quality isn't gonna match the 4 star reviews of Danny Bhoy etc., but I enjoyed it just as much. Probably more a 3.5 star than 4 but there's no option for that and I've just eaten a good lunch so it's a 4.
