New host of the triple j Breakfast show Matt Okine competed in the 2004 RAW Comedy National Final.
What was your favourite RAW moment?
The QLD state final. It was only my third ever gig, and I couldn't believe I'd made it that far. A whole bunch of my friends came and supported, and I was blown away by how loud the sell-out crowd at the Sit-Down Comedy Club was. I didn't win, but I did well enough to make it through to the National Finals.
What advice would you give to the next batch of RAW comedians?
Talk about yourself and what you know. Don't try to do about topics just because you've seen other comics talking about them. Just remember - if you think it's funny, then there's a good chance someone else will too.
Tell us your best knock knock joke?
Do you have any before stage superstitions/rituals?
Don't get caught up in the hype of the green room. Just find a quiet place, and think about your set.
Who are you looking forward to seeing at MICF 2014?
Doc Brown, Late Night Gimp Fight, James Acaster, Ronny Chieng, Steen Raskopolous, Rhys Nicholson & Wil Anderson.
What’s the best worst joke you’ve told?
Did you hear about the energizer bunny that went to court?
He was charged with battery.
Describe your comedy in three words?
First joke you ever told?
I can't really recite it. It was just about being black but not being good at basketball or not being in Australia because of a World Vision sponsorship... don't judge me.
