Opening Night Comedy Allstars Supershow

Review by Elise Faulkner

'FLAP YOUR WINGS LIKE A PIGEON' Sam Simmons yelled to an unsuspecting audience member who, after being straddled and having his face caressed by Simmons, had been plucked out of the crowd and forced to dance on stage wearing a pigeon mask.

At this moment, the audience realised that almost anything can happen at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival's Opening Night Gala, which was held on 26 March at the Palais Theatre in St Kilda.

Hosted by Stephen K Amos and Cal Wilson, the gala featured performances by US comedians Kyle Kinane, Seaton Smith and Jen Kirkman, UK comedians Tim Vine, Sara Pascoe and Nish Kumar, and homegrown acts like Wil Anderson, Tommy Little and The Umbilical brothers, just to name a few.

The Opening Night Gala is a lot of fun. It's a showcase of just some of the talent performing over the course of the Comedy Festival, but if last night's performances are anything to go by, it's going to be a killer festival.

Be sure to check it out when it airs on Channel 10!
