Review by Mika Tsoi
Unlike most musical comedians, with Ryan Coffey, it’s difficult to pick where the emphasis lies: he could do either jokes or music and have a career at both. Using a loop pedal, guitar, body percussion and a great seat of pipes, Coffey’s wonderful musical comedy alchemy has no missteps and features songs about beards, drunk sex, honesty and IKEA, and being the wonder that he is, he puts the punchlines in the verses, not the chorus. My favourite quote of the show, ‘segues are for dickheads’, neatly signalling the next song. He’s charming, filthy and there’s a sing along at the end, which will stick in your head.
