Melbourne International Comedy Festival proudly presents
Kyle Kinane (USA)
Kyle Kinane has been up and at it for almost half his life, mostly searching for what it might be. In 1999, Kyle realised there might be something more to it all than pulling nights at a suburban gas station. ‘Something more’ has taken him to comedy festivals across the US, Canada and England.
Everyman comedian Kyle debuts his solo show in Australia. He weaves wry observations about the details of his everyday life - bleak, uplifting or simply the reality of outlaying $100 for some fast food. It’s self-deprecating, sardonic humour at its very best punctuated with sharp, delightful moments of glimmering hope for the world.
Originally from Chicago, and now based in LA, Kyle has recorded a half-hour special for Comedy Central, appeared on Conan and in the Judd Apatow production Funny People, and was gonged one of Variety’s Ten Comics To Watch in 2010. He was called "bleak and misanthropic" by the London Evening Standard, which he still feels may be a compliment.
He’s the bearded man at the bar you’ll share a beer with and chat about past forays into punk.
"Our favourite curmudgeon...catching his set is like hanging out with a great friend over a beer." Time Out New York
"Kinane is like a comedy god to us." Time Out Chicago
"This is everyman humour’." Chortle
"It’s simply impossible not to embrace this likable underachiever, who proves to be a strong joke writer and an incredibly natural storyteller." Punchline
