Melbourne International Comedy Festival acknowledges the traditional custodians of the lands upon which we work and live. We acknowledge the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples' spirit, imagination and rich history of storytelling and humour that is an inspiration to all Australians.

We accept the invitation to walk together with First Nations people towards a more positive future for Australia, as described in the Uluru Statement From The Heart.

Melbourne International Comedy Festival proudly supports the following organisations and their work in making the world a better place for everyone.

OXFAM

For over 20 years Melbourne International Comedy Festival has been proudly supporting Oxfam's development work around the world through The Gala – a glitterati line-up of local and international comedians in a one-night-only event of unrivalled laughs.

Melbourne International Comedy Festival also supports Oxfam by providing patrons the opportunity to make a small donation to Oxfam when booking tickets for certain shows.

Oxfam’s partnership with the Festival has helped improve the lives of thousands of people by providing clean water, increasing incomes, improving crops, reducing disease, and securing greater access to health care and education.

For more information on Oxfam Australia check out their website.

Who is Oxfam Australia?

One person in three in the world lives in poverty. Oxfam is determined to change that world by mobilising the power of people against poverty.

Around the globe, Oxfam works to find practical, innovative ways for people to lift themselves out of poverty and thrive. We save lives and help rebuild livelihoods when crisis strikes. And we campaign so that the voices of the poor influence the local and global decisions that affect them.

In all we do, Oxfam works with partner organisations and alongside vulnerable women and men to end the injustices that cause poverty.

Mirabel Foundation

Melbourne International Comedy Festival has been supporting the Mirabel Foundation for over 11 years.

Mirabel assists children who have been orphaned or abandoned due to parental illicit drug use and are now in the care of extended family (kinship care). Mirabel believes that every child deserves a childhood and its mission is to break the destructive cycle of addiction.

In 2016, the Festival hosted the the wedding of the incomparable Zoe Coombs Marr and Rhys Nicholson in an extra special Festival Club night. The Wedding raised funds for Minus 18 - Australia's national organisation for LGBTI youth advocating for an Australia free from homophobia and transphobia. Each year Minus18 support more than 150,000 LGBTI young people online and in person through resources, workshops and social events so that they can feel confident being themselves.
