Ali Cat presents

The Opera Burlesque

More high Cs than sleaze but just enough tease to please.

In the 19th century, a group of opera singers used to creep out of the Royal Opera House in London, dash across to the East End and perform their arias in corsets and drawers for the vaudeville-loving public. Parodying popular theatre of the day, these ladies gave the audience a taste of opera that they may not otherwise either experience or care for...

Now, fresh from sold-out Melbourne, Adelaide and Edinburgh Fringe shows, three of Australia’s favourite young opera singers - Ali McGregor, Antoinette Halloran and Dimity Shepherd - climb down from their gilded opera box and writhe about in the sawdust of a carnival tent singing everything from Puccini to AC/DC and back again.

“…a classically trained trio of singers with serious reputations crossover from traditional fare into the subterranean world of cabaret, vaudeville… and heavy metal.” The Age
