Well, I’m not sure what to say here. Much of the audience seemed to love this show. And when I asked several people why they were there, they said they were big fans of McClelland’s work generally.
It would seem that being an insider or groupy helps immensely in one’s enjoyment of this show. For me, it was one of the longest hours I’ve spent at the festival so far. I chuckled occasionally but mostly I watched McClelland’s watch tick ever so slowly toward the end of the hour … which he overextended by almost 7 minutes. I was annoyed at his laughter at himself and by his making almost constant eye contact with a section of the audience who were clearly friends or relatives: it was like joining an established group of friends who spent all night telling inside jokes. And I have one last question: stoic chicken?? Please.
