A fantastic concept for a show: revisit six of Disney’s princesses and see what happens after the “happily ever after” ending. Very creative original songs, great voices, good acting, and a plot twist at the end that makes it all worth while. However, I felt the show could’ve been much more edgy than it was – this material is rife with alternative possibilities and only a few of them were actually taken. Often the show resorts to the same kind of sexist stereotyping as that which the troupe claimed they were trying to deconstruct; I was particularly annoyed by the refrain, repeated many times, that one princess or another should “just die.” And the cliquishness of the princesses is neither funny nor congruent with the raison d’etre of the show.
