Joseph is a bland, anal-retentive public servant with (unsurprisingly) no social activities scheduled for April. Too spineless to create his own comedy show, he'll happily use the spare time to pass fleeting judgment on the blood, sweat and tears of others. You want ten of his stars? You better work!

Spontaneous Broadway

10 / 10

It’s no secret that I’m a showtune junkie. It’s therefore not terribly surprising that I’ve already seen Spontaneous Broadway quite a number of times previously. I won’t reveal the actual number because at some point in the future I would like to have sex and internet postings are forever.

Unlike the risky business of intimate relations however, for all the times that I have seen this show I have never once been disappointed.

What drives this relentless success? Is it the format itself, with the audience supplying random song titles from which the cast construct a number of full concept musicals on the spot? Is it the astounding improvisational musical stylings of Mr John Thorn? Is it the jaw-dropping triple-threat skill of Julia Zemiro, Geoff Paine, Genevieve Morris and Ross Daniels? Is it the astute structuring and narration of Russell Fletcher?

All of the above and more.

The material is always fresh, my favourite cast member is constantly changing and my fellow audience members are consistently left gasping for air.
