Some Class Clowns have heaps of ideas for their act, and are already pretty well prepared when they register. Others want to take a pretty informal approach to participating and will work on their act in their own time, in their own way.
However, if you’re a teacher who wants to extend your Class Clowns participation into a fuller experience, or help your students develop their acts in the first place, the Festival can arrange for a Class Clowns workshop leader to come out to your school.
Whereas a competition workshop is probably closer in fact to an intensive dress rehearsal, a Class Clowns Crash Course workshop is a more relaxed exercise in helping students write or devise their acts.
Crash Courses are run at schools, for two to three hours, and for up to twenty students at a time. They’re arranged especially on request. The cost varies depending on your circumstances, but the Festival works hard to keep them affordable for schools and students.
Please note: we'll set you up a Crash Course at any time of year. After all, at most, the next Class Clowns competition is never more than 10 months away, so it's always relevant. Regardless, it's a productive and valuable experience in its own right.

Professional Development Workshops for Teachers
In association with the Victorian Arts Centre, the Comedy Festival presents (Not) Just Jokes, Folks! - Comedy in the Classroom, a professional development workshop for teachers.
This session is designed to explore the complexity, sophistication and pure genius of comedy. Ok, that may be a bit of an exaggeration, but is it? Investigate how building good comedy encourages students in a wide range of personal and interpersonal skills, as well as creativity, writing, performance and thinking.

Are you in Sydney?
Class Clowns is working with Impro Australia to use impro and Theatresports workshops to develop comic writing and development skills.

During May and June of each year, over 100 teams from high schools in
Sydney and regional NSW take part in the Theatresports® Schools
Competition (TSC).
Theatresports® challenges students to create scenes based on surprise
offers with no preparation time, and it's also the basis for such TV
shows as 'Thank God You’re Here'.
Teams can enter the Intermediate (yrs 9 & 10) or Senior (yrs 11 & 12)
division. For more information, email geoff.bartlett@improaustralia.com.au.
