2018 Competition Winners

It's been a massive year of fresh comedy talent from all corners of Australia! Since October last year, we have been making our way around the country, unearthing Australia's freshest and funniest. From school yards, to some of Australia's most remote areas - once again we have been blown away by the sheer talent, uniqueness and laughs that these soon-to-be household names have to offer! It's with great pleasure we introduce to you, your 2018 competition winners at this year's Festival!

Bec Melrose from New South Wales joined the ranks of RAW Comedy champions at last nights 2018 National Grand Final. Congratulations to Bec, Runners up were Emma Holland (ACT) & Gavin Sempel (VIC) and to all the National Grand Fianalists who put on such an incredible show!

Now in its 22nd year, RAW Comedy – Australia’s largest national open mic competition – we have the incredible honour of unerathing the bravest and boldest new comedians from around the country. RAW has kick-started the careers of some of the nation’s favourite comedians including Tom Ballard, Hannah Gadsby, Ronny Chieng, Josh Thomas, Celia Pacquola, Luke McGregor, Demi Lardner and Luke Heggie! 1068 people competed in 63 RAW Comedy heats and finals around Australia in 2018 and now Bec will now head over the Scotland during the Edinburgh Fringe Festival to comepte in So You Think You're Funny (the UK's equvilent of RAW). Good luck Bec!!!

For our underage budding comics, Class Clowns is where the all the school laughs happen! Fifteen comedy acts discoved in schoolyards across the nation took to the Forum Theatre with their best five-minutes of material, competing in the Class Clowns National Grand Final, for their chance to be crowned the funniest teen in the country.

The winners of the 2018 Class Clowns title are all the way from Queensland, Liam Adam, Carlin Carruth & Kyle Bennett performing as sketch group 'Awkward'! 

Another big congrats to runners-up Dusty Diddle (VIC), Nina Cowley-Mousinho & Shiloh Rea (QLD) and Nicholas Doring (NSW) and all the participants who put on a fabulous show! Competition was fierce, the decision was hard, and the show was fantastic! You should all be proud of yourselves - we certainly are!

Cheeky and loud, black and proud, Deadly Funny is our national comedy competition unearthing the freshest and funniest Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander talent from across the country. This year brought 12 finalists from every nook and cranny of Australia to Melbourne as they took to the stage to compete for the National Deadly Funny title and a $2000 cash prize.

Congratulations to Leon Filewood (QLD) our 2018 Deadly Funny champion! The National Grand Final continues to grow, in both size of participants and audience numbers and this year absolutely blew us away! Leon joins the ranks of the country’s favourite Indigenous comedians including 2017 Deadly Funny National Final winner, Ghenoa Gela, and previous winners Jalen Sutcliffe, Nina Kirby, Stephanie Tisdell, Tristan Savage, Kevin Kropinyeri, Shiralee Hood, Mia Stanford and Denise McGuinness who have each taken the title since the competition began in 2007.
