Melbourne International Comedy Festival acknowledges the traditional custodians of the lands upon which we work and live. We acknowledge the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples' spirit, imagination and rich history of storytelling and humour that is an inspiration to all Australians.

We accept the invitation to walk together with First Nations people towards a more positive future for Australia, as described in the Uluru Statement From The Heart.

Stand Up! Grants

A grant supporting a new generation of strong funny women serious about comedy

We are very pleased with the announcement of Stand Up! Grants, an Andrews Labor Government initiative inspired by the talent and promise of Eurydice Dixon, supporting a new generation of strong funny women serious about comedy.

Congratulations to inaugural recipients: solo comedians Annie Louey and Alex Ward, and duo Urvi Majumdar and Carla Wills. Can’t wait to see their 2019 Melbourne International Comedy Festival shows. The Stand Up! Grants are aimed at supporting local women in comedy to cover the practical costs of mounting their shows at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival. The funding will enable the women to focus their energies on creating and presenting their new work and maximising the opportunity the Comedy Festival offers as an important, career-developing showcase.

The Minister for Creative Industries Martin Foley and Premier Danial Andrews said:

“Eurydice Dixon was a young and talented emerging comedian and those that knew her remember her as brilliant, brave and unafraid to delve into challenging material.”

“Stand Up! is an initiative that honours Eurydice’s memory by supporting strong, funny women who are serious about their comedy careers and using their voice, and talent, to create social change.”

“The Victorian Government was honoured to work with Eurydice’s family and the Comedy Festival team on this program which will support our next generation of women in comedy to achieve their professional dreams.”
