Lights! Camera! Improvise! Impro Melbourne is proud to present At The Movies, an hilarious romp through B movie heaven.
Here’s how it works.
Each night you, the audience, get to decide which of two different B movies you’d like to see the improvisors take to its big cheesy conclusion. Once the choice is made, the cast and audience all watch the first five minutes of the movie. Then the screening is halted and it’s up to the players to create the rest of the story.
None of the actors have seen the film so no one knows how the real plot unfolds, and with a different choice of films on offer for every show it’s like a mini B movie festival tucked inside a comedy festival.
Director Sarah Kinsella is in charge of the action and she’ll select each night’s movies. Sarah performed At The Movies with Montreal Improv, who together with Vancouver’s Little Mountain Improv developed this hugely popular format. A massive sell-out success at the 2018 Montreal Improv Festival, Impro Melbourne is thrilled to have been given permission to premiere At The Movies in Australia as part of the 2019 Melbourne International Comedy Festival.
The unparalleled comedic artistry and superlative storytelling skills of the Impro Melbourne players are guaranteed to have movie nerds, comedy freaks and die-hard impro fans all returning again and again. So grab your popcorn and hunker down for a rare red carpet treat.
'If you have never been to an improvisation show –you must. Every time I go I'm amazed at the skills, talents and depth of knowledge the actors have. How do they make connections to so many ideas and so quickly? From just a keyword or two they never fail to somehow turn this into comedy – it's mind-boggling.' WeekendNotes
