Winner - Arts Choice Award - Edinburgh Fringe 2017

Paul Currie is an Irish & UK award winning stand-up comedian and a pioneer of absurdist comedy. He has been pushing the boundaries of “microphone” stand-up ever since his debut in 2004. By taking his brand of comedy which is a fusion of clown, surrealism, mime, puppetry, music, story and the energy of street performing he gently encourages audiences to think beyond the panel show comedian we are spoon fed via the TV and the internet. He has taken his unique style of comedy not only into regular stand up comedy clubs but also contemporary arts festivals and comedy festivals across the globe: from Glastonbury to Melbourne International Comedy Festival, and from Omagh to Utrecht International comedy Festival. Currie has also performed to many non English speaking comedy audiences with his use of physical comedy and mime to great success in Germany, Denmark, Belgium & the Nederland’s. He revels in breaking rules, opening audiences minds to other ways of laughing and showing people comedy has as wide a spectrum of genres as music & art.

'Paul Currie is a disturbingly brilliant comic who plays his crowd like the conductor of an orchestra. Currie’s ability to have the audience in his thrall as an ensemble, waiting expectantly in absolute silence for the next moment, is genius. ★★★★★' Broadway Baby

'The way Currie interacts with the crowd is a marvel in itself as he effortlessly manipulates them with barely a word. The audience are treated with love and respect and it’s hard to see a face that doesn’t grin with childish glee at the antics in the room. Hot Donkey balances the right amount of the absurdity in a comedy hour that will tickle the heart of even the most straight laced cynics. ★★★★★' The WEE Review

'I wish I'd seen him sooner. I'll be back to see him every year. My favourite comedy show of the Fringe this year.' Stewart Lee

'Currie is utterly unique. A new standard has been set for the fringe. ★★★★★' The Skinny

'There was something extra original about this guy, it was like watching the Monty Python version of stand-up comedy. ★★★★★' FringeGuru

'a unique blast of silly that’s found its groove and place amongst the Fringe’s elite... he’s fast developing a cult following. Everything Currie does has the spirit of Vic & Bob, The Young Ones and everything surreal that’s come before or since. ★★★★' EdFest magazine

'Currie is easily the King of the Fringe. ★★★★★' Voice Magazine

'Paul Currie’s style of stand-up defies expectations and labels... you’ll leave with cheeks and sides aching with laughter — and little idea of what’s just happened. ★★★★' The Times

'Currie is so inventive that it’s genuinely astounding.'★★★★ and a half' Short Com

'Beautifully crafted, committed and exciting silliness' John Higgins, Culture NI

'★★★★★' The Skinny

'★★★★★' The New Current
