The Aspie Hour

The Aspie Hour

ANNOUNCEMENT: Due to popular demand, we're back for one final show at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival upstairs at The Athenaeum! Don't miss out!

2019 Green Room Award WINNER Best Writing in a Cabaret
2019 Green Room Award NOMINEE Best Ensemble in a Cabaret

After a sold out run at the Ballarat Cabaret Festival in 2017, a sold out extended run at the 2018 Melbourne International Comedy Festival and a sold out show at the Melbourne Writers Festival in 2018, The Aspie Hour returns. Because we love routine and repetition.

The Aspie Hour is an informative and delightfully irreverent cabaret from talented cabaret team, Sophie Smyth and Ryan Smedley. They explore their experiences with Asperger’s Syndrome and navigate the neurotypical world through the prism of their identical love: musical theatre. Ryan shares moments from his solo journey to New York City and the magnitude of travelling somewhere new on your own. Sophie explores her spectacular range of psychological issues by framing her life as a musical whilst under the guise of Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz. Together they flail through misread social cues and flaunt their ability to recall obscure musical theatre facts. Honest and unapologetic, they debunk misconceptions about Asperger’s and re-define what it is to be an 'Aspie' today.

Starring Sophie Smyth and Ryan Smedley.
Directed by Fiona Scott-Norman.
Musical Direction by Rainer Pollard.
