Meet the Cast of Comedy Zone Asia

Comedy Zone Asia is charging into Melbourne! This diverse, dynamic showcase brings Asia’s brightest comic voices together for a dose of cross-cultural laughs. So get a taste of these international stars as we head into the sixth year of Comedy Zone Asia!

Nigel Ng (Malaysia)

Following an incredible run at the 2019 Edinburgh Fringe, which earned him a Best Newcomer nomination, rising star Nigel Ng wins audiences over with his wry observations and supurb comedy timing. Recently relocating from Kuala Lumpur to London, Nigel’s TV appearances include Comedy Central’s Rob Delaney’s Stand Up Central and Roast Battle.

Sakdiyah Ma'ruf (Indonesia)

Celebrated as Indonesia’s first Muslim female stand-up comic, Sakdiyah uses humour to make sense of her place in a changing Indonesia. The comedian, activist and two-time TEDx speaker received the Vaclav Havel International Prize for Creative Dissent in 2015 and was recognised as one of BBC's 100 Women in 2018 and BBC Cultural Frontline's 12 Artists that Changed the World in 2019.

Sam See (Singapore)

Sam See is part of Asia's new wave of stand-up comedians, entertaining audiences from around the globe for over half a decade with his unique blend of jokes, stories and improvised humour. From Singapore, Sam has featured on Comedy Central Asia's Stand-Up Asia and his debut show at Edinburgh Fringe was picked as one of the top 50 unmissable shows of the Fringe (To Do List).

Zainal Bostaman (Brunei)

Zainal Bostaman returns to Melbourne after charming Festival audiences in 2019 with his honesty and relaxed, approachable style. Since his 2014 stage debut, Brunei-born Zainal has cemented his place across the South East Asian comedy scene, delivering hilarious takes on everyday situations. Zainal founded Brunei's BruHaHa Comedy Club and has featured on Comedy Central Asia’s Stand-up Asia and the Jakarta International Comedy Festival.
