Melissa McGlensey The Briefing

The Briefing is Melissa McGlensey’s debut solo show. It premiered at Melbourne Fringe to critical acclaim and thoroughly entertained audiences. Born out of McGlensey’s obsession with global politics and her love for biting satire, The Briefing is a genre-defying show that takes note of the unique historical and political moment we are currently in. It centres around America’s second most notorious liar – Sarah Huckabee Sanders. The former White House Press Secretary turned Fox News host has left Trump’s side to embark on a global propaganda tour. Her first stop? Melbourne.

Part comedic press briefing, part character stand-up and part improvised Q&A session, The Briefing purposefully blurs the lines between fact and fiction, truth and reality, the dark and the absurd, the entertaining and the ominous. It’s stand-up dressed as political theatre, satire disguised as character sketch. It’s a show that takes merciless aim at America, only to wind up catching Australia in its crosshairs. Come along and don't forget to bring your questions!

Here’s what reviewers had to say:

'The Briefing isn’t simply about making fun of Sarah or Trump, it also pokes fun at dark parts of Australia’s own politics, garnering some gasps and shocked laughs from the audience… This is a brilliant example of political comedy. Much better than anything produced by SNL for example.' Squirrel Comedy (Read the full review here)

'McGlensey demonstrates great writing and performing talent and provides some light-hearted respite from a very dire political reality.' Stage Whispers (Read the full review here)

'If you’re interested in US politics and looking for a laugh, this should be in your calendar.' Beat Magazine (Read the full review here)
