Steph Tisdell has been announced as the host of Australian comedy’s night of nights - The Gala in support of Oxfam.

In so doing, she will become the first Indigenous comedian to take the reins of the most anticipated night on the comedy calendar with wall-to-wall laughs from a huge line-up of local and international stars.

This one-off spectacular is not just a great night out, it’s a chance to do some good. This year, fundraising will focus on the work of the Australian First Peoples program, with the spotlight on Oxfam’s Straight Talk program. Over the last 25 years, Oxfam’s partnership with the Festival has made a difference to the lives of thousands of people around the world, tackling poverty and inequality head-on by providing clean water, decent toilets and practical, life-changing solutions for people in need.

Steph’s Gala spot last year (her first) went viral and in her own words:
“I’m not sure the Comedy Festival are making the right decision having this big face! But in all seriousness, I think Aboriginal representation in roles like this is hugely important and I’m so chuffed they’d have faith in me to fulfil such an important job."

The Gala is sold out but audiences are encouraged to donate to Oxfam from their couches.

ABCTV will broadcast the Gala nationally. Broadcast date is to be announced soon.
