Melbourne International Comedy Festival acknowledges the traditional custodians of the lands upon which we work and live. We acknowledge the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples' spirit, imagination and rich history of storytelling and humour that is an inspiration to all Australians.

We accept the invitation to walk together with First Nations people towards a more positive future for Australia, as described in the Uluru Statement From The Heart.

2021 Greenroom Award Winners Announced

After a tough year for the arts, we've seen adaptability and creativity thrive in order to keep live performance alive. In 2021 the Green Room Awards return with an array of accolades that have rewarded performers who achieved greatness in a year without a stage. Last night, this year's Green Room Awards gathered (albeit virtually) to honour some of Melbourne's most resilient creatives and many of our Comedy Festival family have been named!

Massive congratulations to Festival legend Ali McGregor for taking out both the Best Cabaret Artiste category, along with her director Sam Keevers taking out the gong for Musical Direction for Ali McGregor's Late Nite Variety-Nite Night ONLINE EDITION! and Choose your Own Variety with Ali McGregor. Long-time Comedy Festival performer Lou Wall has taken out a number of awards, including Outstanding Online Achievement in Cabaret, Best Production and Writing for Lousical the Musical - outstanding work Lou!

The People of Cabaret, who you may remember as the closing night stars of this year's Festival Club, have taken out the prize for Best Ensemble. Congratulations to these fierce performers!

A massive shoutout also to Richard Watts, long time Festival supporter and all-round arts legend, who has been honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award, as well as Bronwyn Pringle who was presented the Technical Achievement Award. Brownyn has been a staff member of many-a-Festival and we are so proud of her and this acknowledgement of her contribution to our industry. And our colleagues at Melbourne Fringe, congratulations for being awarded the Making The Impossible Possible in 2020 Award – an incredible feat.

Congratulations to all those honoured with an award this year, it's been an incredibly tough year for our industry. For a full list of award winners, you can head to the Green Room Awards website.
