Impromptunes combines the glamour of musical theatre with the mayhem of improvised comedy in a show like no other. Everything in this incredible show is made up on the spot – the music, the songs, the dialogue, the characters and the dancing. You'll be on the edge of your seat throughout as the Impromptunes cast improvises a musical full of hijinks, harmonies and hilarity. It's unrehearsed. It's unpredictable. It's a whole lot of fun. Formed in 2013, Impromptunes is Australia's premier improvised musical comedy troupe. They have performed over 400 live improvised musicals in Melbourne International Comedy Festival, Adelaide Fringe, Perth FRINGE WORLD and even Edinburgh Festival Fringe. A regular sell out, Impromptunes has become a festival staple, as audiences can come back again and again – no two shows are the same!
The hugely talented cast is comprised of professional musical theatre performers and Melbourne's finest improvised comedians, with training from institutions such as WAAPA, VCA, Impro Melbourne, The Improv Conspiracy and The Big HOO HAA!
The improv musical fun continues all year round, with the weekly release of 'Impromptunes: The Podcast', which has twice been nominated for Best Comedy Podcast at the Australian Podcast Awards (2020 & 2022). The team also presents a live show on the first Friday of every month at their new home of the beautiful Alex Theatre in St Kilda.
