Melbourne International Comedy Festival acknowledges the traditional custodians of the lands upon which we work and live. We acknowledge the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples' spirit, imagination and rich history of storytelling and humour that is an inspiration to all Australians.

We accept the invitation to walk together with First Nations people towards a more positive future for Australia, as described in the Uluru Statement From The Heart.

Laughing Matters: Comedy and Free Speech in India

Panelists: Sapan Verman, Daniel Fernandes, Neeti Palta

"This is EIC Outrage, where we talk about issues ... and hope to not get assassinated". That's how comedian Sapan Verma chose to introduce one episode of his popular East India Comedy 'Outrage' Youtube series.

India's comedy scene seems to be enjoying a space of unpoliced free expression within a conservative culture and tightening media censorship. Stand-up is where many of the sharpest Indian voices comment on social issues, finding humour in subjects as diverse as Bollywood, terrorism, Tinder, feminism, international cricket, youth suicide and Game of Thrones.

Out panelists will talk censorship, stand-up and how comedy might change the world.

Date: Saturday 22 April

Time: 3pm (75mins)

Venue: The Wheeler Centre

Bookings: Essential, book here

Jeez Louise Address: Cal Wilson

Women in comedy. The questions are always asked. Based on anonymous answers from industry and audiences, Cal discusses whether gender makes a difference... from the perspective of those watching, programming and performing comedy.

This address will explore honest responses around diversity in the world of comedy. What does the industry actually think? Is it what we think they're thinking?

Date: Sunday 9 April

Time: 4pm (55mins)
