Nick Gibb

High, Functioning, Autistic

  • New Zealand

Winner Billy T Award 2011 NZ International Comedy Festival

Nick Gibb has autism without the card counting, Tourette’s without the swearing and an hilarious stand-up show that bridges the gap between Rain Man and reality.

If you hate the idea of being singled out and picked on by a comedian 'riffing' at your expense to pad time, rest assured I won’t do that. To paraphrase the Backstreet Boys: I don’t care who you are, where you’re from, or what you do – so I’m not going to do crowd work. I’ve come equipped with the best of 15 years worth of jokes and stories from what I generously call my “comedy career” and I will monologue them to you with the confident yet awkward energy of a malfunctioning ship’s droid or store mannequin that’s been brought to life by a wizard.

I did this wonderful Festival a depressingly long time ago as the host of deeply geeky cult favourite Fanfiction Comedy and while I took my sweet time returning for my solo debut, I promise that like a fine vintage wine, you won’t regret spending $29 on me. That’s actually really cheap for what you’re getting.

'Incredibly self-assured and cleverly intelligent… a masterclass in comedy.' TVNZ

'Erudite and educated… brilliantly original material.' Edinburgh Guide

'Commands the stage easily with a practiced precision that equals some of the biggest comedians in the game… phenomenal – you’ll laugh till it hurts.' Festival Journal

'A hilarious introspective reflection on autism and Tourette’s… a fantastic hour of comedy that hits much deeper than a standard comedy show.' The Speakeasy

Suitable for audiences 15+

Melbourne International Comedy Festival acknowledges the traditional custodians of the lands upon which we work and live. We acknowledge the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples' spirit, imagination and rich history of storytelling and humour that is an inspiration to all Australians.

We accept the invitation to walk together with First Nations people towards a more positive future for Australia, as described in the Uluru Statement From The Heart.
