Sammy J

The Kangaroo Effect

  • Australia

Sammy J returns in a time-bending memoir that bounces through the life of a recovering attention seeker via song, stories and VHS tapes.

A butterfly flaps its wings and four decades later Sammy J accidentally turns up to a 40th birthday party dressed as a kangaroo. Who is to blame? What moment led to this? Welcome to the Kangaroo Effect.

Sammy J’s career has had more eras than Taylor Swift. Comedian, author, composer, and broadcaster, he’s one half of the man/puppet comedy duo Sammy J & Randy, had a sitcom on Netflix, created satirical sketches for ABC TV and hosted the ABC Radio Melbourne breakfast show for five years. His most recent live tours include Good Hustle and Symphony in J Minor, which was recorded for a Paramount+ live special at the Malthouse Theatre, while his '1990s' song has had over 30 million views online.

'An endlessly creative talent.' ★★★★★ Time Out, London

'This country's finest and most astute satirist.' ★★★★★ The Age

'How do you prefer your comedy? Straight stand-up, musical, storytelling, light-hearted or heartfelt? Why not just have it all? Sammy J has something for everyone in his show.' ★★★★★ Chortle (UK)

'What a deluded flog.' Kyle Sandilands
