Yon (Tripod)

The Car in My Parents' Driveway

  • Australia

Grammy-nominated Yon (Simon Hall) presents The Car In My Parents’ Driveway.

Yon’s found a car in his parents' driveway at 1am with its lights on and its engine running. What’s it doing there? And what’s he doing, you know, in general?

That’s two doubt holes – what will he do with them? Will he plug the doubt holes? What will he plug the doubt holes with? Does he even need to plug them – the doubt holes? Should he just be okay with there being doubt holes? Should he have called the show Doubt Holes? No. No he shouldn’t have.

Yon (Simon Hall) is best known for his work in comedy band Tripod. In this, Yon’s third solo show, the songs ask questions: How far do you need to go to keep your parents happy? Actually, should you clean the lens on your phone? What’s wrong with 2012 animated Disney movie Wreck-It Ralph? (Actually, he does answer that one). Can you write comedy songs about how much you love something?

Yon's solo projects include Second Wedding Singer, commissioned by Adelaide Cabaret Festival and the Green-Room award-winning Mandaddy: Songs of Love and Love. Yon has written songs for Musical Fictions for the Sydney Writers’ Festival and for video game Stray Gods, for which he was nominated for a Grammy in 2024.

As part of Tripod, Yon has performed on stage in the Edinburgh Festival, Montreal Comedy Festival and Melbourne International Comedy Festival, as well as with Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. Tripod have made countless TV appearances, including Just for Laughs Montreal, The Melbourne International Comedy Festival Gala (Network Ten and ABCTV), Skithouse (Network Ten) and The Sideshow (ABCTV). Tripod have written songs for Monster Beach (Cartoon Network) and the video game Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate (Ubisoft).

'Awesome... hilarious highlight of (2024) MICF.' Squirrel Comedy

'Very funny... (Yon’s) grouchy catharsis is also ours.' The Age

'Sparkling and witty original songs... very funny and at times a little poignant.' The West Australian
