The shortlist for comedy's biggest prize has been announced! Featuring an incredibly diverse array of nominees, the Edinburgh Comedy Award shortlist dropped, with rising stars and some familiar Melbourne International Comedy Festival faces.
We'll start off by making a huge shout out to the only Aussie to make the shortlist, up for the gong for Best Show, we extend HUGE congratulations to Demi Lardner. Rising from the RAW Comedy ranks in 2013, nominated for Best Newcomer, Directors' Choice and Pinder Prize winner, she's garnered most award and award nominations under the sun here in Aus and now she's making her mark on the international scene. Congratulations Demi!
Also making the shortlist for Best Show includes past Comedy Festival faces including Spencer Jones, Darren Harriott & Ivo Graham (who both featured in New Order in 2018) and Jordan Brookes who made his Australian debut at this year's Festival. They are joined by Jessica Fostekew, London Hughes and sketch groups Goodbear (Joe Barnes and Henry Perryment) & The Delightful Sausage (Chris Cantrill and Amy Gledhill).
The Best Newcomer shortlist features Crybabies, Catherine Cohen, Helen Bauer, Huge Davies, Janine Harouni, Michael Odewale, Nigel Ng and Sophie Duker.
Good luck to all the nominees! Stephen Fry and 2018 best show winner, Rose Matafeo will announce the winners on Saturday at midday local time. So stay tuned!
