Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’d know AI is no friend of the arts, which is exactly the premise behind this Pre-Game Theatre production. The team ask AI for a play based on a book, tonight’s being L Frank Baum’s The Wizard of Oz. Coming to life with four performers from the festival, the hour’s filled with the classic AI tropes we’ve all battled with, but thanks to the engaging performances and improvised costume changes of Jeromaia Detto, Dom McCusker, Sophie Power and Oscar Shiel, so much life and energy is brought into such a lifeless AI written script. Thanks to short mid-show discussion, the show also acts as a wider commentary on the issues of AI, ethical dilemmas of its learning materials, and most of all, illustrates why human input is still the most important thing out there, and how it’s something AI will never replace.
