What is girl culture? Alex Hines seeks to answer this very question in this shambolic, vivid, wild blend of sketch, cabaret, and stand-up. Covering everything from Pauline Hanson, to mental health, to Diet Coke, the jokes in “Girl Culture” land with continuous and startling ferocity.

Alex Hines is doing it like no one else. About ten minutes into this show, my Apple Watch pinged to give me a high decibel warning – the audience applause was so thunderous that I just might have gotten permanent hearing damage. That’s girl culture.

Hines’ versatility and rabid energy as a performer has never been more evident than in this latest work. Her creativity is tantamount, with some of the costume and AV choices in this show so brilliant that I struggle to describe them as anything except awesome. Which might sound reductive if it wasn’t so true. This show was awesome in the Biblical sense: knock-your-socks-off, slightly terrifying, endlessly memorable kinds of awesome.

“Girl Culture” is a rollercoaster ride. Ambitious, silly, and iconic: Alex Hines has done it again.
