Neel Kolhatkar

Black Belt Comedy

  • Australia

Neel Kolhatkar loves two things – comedy and martial arts. What he admires most about martial arts is the belt system: a clear marker of skill earned through practice and experience. Neel believes comedy should be no different.

With social media flooded by stand-ups of every stripe, there’s no way to gauge a comedian’s experience and skill level – so why not introduce comedy belts?
From ‘white belts’ telling dad jokes to ‘black belts’ tackling dark, taboo topics with nuance and precision.

Black Belt Comedy is Neel's personal challenge – to earn the right to say the hardest things in the funniest way. This year’s show dives into cultural quirks, relationships and modern social dynamics, all delivered with Neel’s signature impressions, accents and infectious energy.

Show contains political, religious, sexual jokes and occasional swearing.

Venue is not wheelchair accessible.

Strictly for audiences 15+

Licensed venue: under 18s will only be permitted with a parent or guardian

Melbourne International Comedy Festival acknowledges the traditional custodians of the lands upon which we work and live. We acknowledge the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples' spirit, imagination and rich history of storytelling and humour that is an inspiration to all Australians.

We accept the invitation to walk together with First Nations people towards a more positive future for Australia, as described in the Uluru Statement From The Heart.
