Tim Batt

Eternal Optimist

  • New Zealand

Come for the wry political observations, stay for the uplifting takeaways and drug stories.

It’s 2026 and tragically, comedy has become important. After years away from the festival circuit, Tim has decided it’s now time to ignore his young children and make light of the rising tide of fascism. This show will contain no less than 20 excellent jokes, three delightful anecdotes, twp illegal acts and one apology for Tim accidentally causing an absolutely dire current situation in his native, Aotearoa.

Tim has won one silver and three gold Medals at the NZ Podcast Awards for Best Comedy, has twice been nominated for NZ's prestigious Billy T Award, hosted his own political/comedy TV chatshow and is the co-host of The Worst Idea of All Time (co-hosted by Guy Montgomery) with over 20 million downloads.

Melbourne International Comedy Festival acknowledges the traditional custodians of the lands upon which we work and live. We acknowledge the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples' spirit, imagination and rich history of storytelling and humour that is an inspiration to all Australians.

We accept the invitation to walk together with First Nations people towards a more positive future for Australia, as described in the Uluru Statement From The Heart.
