Great Question

  • Australia

At 35, instead of buying a motorbike or starting a podcast, I did what any stable adult would do. I walked away from a safe, respectable career to become a magician and mentalist.

Great Question is the story of how that happened… and whether it’s brave, stupid, or both.

Like most magicians, it started young with the trick kits, old books, and an unhealthy obsession with figuring out how things work. All chasing that moment when someone gasps and you realise you’ve got their full attention.

This show uncovers the strange lifecycle of magicians: what draws us in, why we keep going, and how the pursuit slowly shifts from fooling people… to trying to understand them.

It’s a real-time experiment built around one slightly terrifying question:

Will this actually work?

And maybe an even bigger one:

If nothing was stopping you, what would you be?

Part comedy, part confession, part live experiment, Great Question explores ambition, reinvention, and the uncomfortable moment you realise the safe path might actually be the scariest one.

There’ll be magic. There may be mind reading. There will definitely be questionable life choices.

And by the end of the night, we’ll find out together whether this bold pivot is visionary…

…or a very public mistake.

No pressure.

Tristan debuted his first show, DM for Deception at MICF in 2025 being described by The Theatre AU as "a slick hybrid of magic, comedy and commentary, delivered with a wink and a perfectly timed delivery. In a festival packed with noise, DM for Deception is a standout piece of intimate and clever programming."

Suitable for audiences 15+

Licensed venue: under 18s will only be permitted with a parent or guardian
