Maps!

Maps! It's a comedy show. About maps. Maps!

This show shares the hilarious true stories of maps and mapping mistakes. This includes how the Victorian-South Australian border was accidentally put in the wrong place and almost led to an invasion (by cartographers). Learn about humanity's (and NASA's) attempts to send maps to aliens, and how we got it wrong.

Come and explore Julian's map obsessions – Null Island (a non-existent island that is found on hundreds of maps); Eucla (a petrol station with its own time zone) and Boundary Islet (an actual land border between Victoria and Tasmania).

If you love historic charts or modern metro maps this is the show for you. If you're a flat earther, come and learn something.

This is the funniest map-themed show at the Festival. Bringing the people what they want – cartographic comedy.

Julian O'Shea is a popular online creator with millions of views across YouTube, Instagram and TikTok. You might have seen him on your For You Page standing in front of a strange piece of urban infrastructure. Julian has performed at Melbourne Fringe and various comedy storytelling events including SciFight Comedy Debate, and has been a comedy writer for Mad Magazine

'Witty, informative and very funny… if you’re looking for something a little different: nerdy, nostalgic and genuinely feel-good, it’s worth your time.' The Scoop

'Creator of delightfully nerdy online content that would be right up the street of any QI fan – and his love of arcane knowledge and quirky challenges is palpable.' Chortle (UK)

Melbourne International Comedy Festival acknowledges the traditional custodians of the lands upon which we work and live. We acknowledge the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples' spirit, imagination and rich history of storytelling and humour that is an inspiration to all Australians.

We accept the invitation to walk together with First Nations people towards a more positive future for Australia, as described in the Uluru Statement From The Heart.
