To All The Boys I've Loved Before
This is my coming-out show – fashionably late, because I’m non-conforming (so gay!). I actually came out mid-performance, in front of a crowd… including my Nan. Let’s just say there was a joke involving a woman, a KFC and the phrase “finger-lickin’ good.” Afterwards, I had to ask my cousin: “Do you think there’s any chance Nan thinks I was just talking about original recipe?”
This is a show about sexuality, identity and growing up as a girl who was better at footy than the boys – until the boys got to keep playing and I didn’t. It’s about family, feminism and the men in my life who, while largely useless, are actually quite decent. Some of them should even be studied, like lab rats.
From bringing pants into my school uniform so I could play soccer, to dating an AFL player who later made headlines for a homophobic slur, to my dad quietly being a feminist without knowing the word, this show is a celebration of strong women, good men and the in-between.
Expect jokes, back flips (aspirationally) and possibly a fallen hot chook on a lino floor. To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before is for anyone who’s ever questioned who they are, who they love or why the Richmond Tigers made them feel… things.
Suitable for audiences 15+
