Mel McGlensey is Normal
In a show that takes interactive comedy to new heights, Mel McGlensey’s “Normal” is anything but. It takes an exceptionally confident human being to stand on a stage and tell jokes in front of an audience, but a different breed entirely to perform a dynamic sequence of bits in any given order on any given night, all dependent on the audience’s participation.
Mel nails it.
She knows her part well, and is so comfortable in it that we, the audience, are empowered to play our part too. Never the same show twice, even though the audience was on the smaller side on Thursday night, we all felt like co-conspirators as we played into Mel’s rules and accelerated the show in any which way. Charmingly self aware, with balls of absolute steel, Mel’s physical comedy is so engaging you can’t look away. She takes a fourth wall break to the next level, with the most involved tech of any Comedy Fest show I’ve seen yet.
It’s genuinely impressive in all facets, and even teases some easter eggs which will make me see it twice!
