“What is this show?” asks David Correos as Touching My Active Mind draws to a close.  Correos is bare-chested, just played a Spotify song request and is standing in front of a stage exploding with props. And honestly, yeah, a fair question. By this point, I’ve been part of a religious chant, witnessed an administrative Q&A, played games and been part of a group prank. But, I’ve irrevocably loved every second.

To see, or more rightfully be immersed in, a David Correos experiment, you have to deeply appreciate the loose unit approach to comedy he excels in. If you’re expecting structure or a well-constructed tight five of any kind, keep walking - but be prepared because Correos has laid out the threat of “the whole audience getting up and walking to Flinders Street Station together.” Rich in goofs and rife with gags, Correos frenetically hurtles himself across the stage with the intensity of dodgem cars, bouncing from one goldmine to the next.

An experimental undertaking that is parts pure derailment, parts stand up (minor) and all parts undeniably him - loud, wild, and creatively a knockout. This is not going to land for everyone, and even I found myself getting lost in the sauce of it all at times. But if you can embrace the delirium, you will enjoy free-falling into David Correos’ mad house. In his own words, I’m glad I came.
