In Comedians’s Comedian’s, Luke McQueen is seeking revenge. The target: Stuart Goldsmith’s The Comedian’s Comedian Podcast. His crime: Goldsmith not believing McQueen is impressive enough to warrant an episode of his own. The plan: stage a faux podcast using artificial intelligence, a creepy mannequin as the host and a tech progressively wavering from McQueen’s imagined reality.

The result is a masterpiece of satire. McQueen, the performer, plays the role of the trickster superbly, expertly walking the line between bravado and comedic self-flagellation. His movement is almost imp-like as he scurries across the stage, succumbing to the mess of his own creation.

The writing is clever as it is totally weird, evoking a level of pretension whip-lashed with unhinged punchlines, including the most cooked inner child therapy I’ve ever observed. It’s outstandingly crafted, directed so expertly and performed so thoughtfully - McQueen captures the essence of a man broken almost too well. Comedian’s Comedian is a biting meta critique on the industry, filled to the brim with sharp jokes, that fully McQueen’s status as the mightiest jester of his time.
