If you’re a nostalgic girlie, former fanfic freak or lover of crafts (ideally all three), Taylah Whelan should be your next favourite comedian stat.

In Happy Birthday Taylah Whelan, the titular Taylah Whelan evokes a trip down memory lane that is tender, sweet, and as sharp as they come. Entranced by a swig of liquid reminiscing, Whelan twirls through her ghosts of birthdays past, exploring the fraughtness of growing older in a place you have outgrown and the illusion of identities that occupy our teen years, accompanied by a wise-cracking talking cat and a wonderland of fun felt props.

It’s poignant, awkward, and packed with pop culture references that cut so deeply and is joyfully laugh-out-loud funny, The way Whelan creates works that are acted beautifully, are grounded in magical realism and have such quick wit is genuinely inspiring. Mark my words: she is one-to-watch.
