Melbourne International Comedy Festival acknowledges the traditional custodians of the lands upon which we work and live. We acknowledge the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples' spirit, imagination and rich history of storytelling and humour that is an inspiration to all Australians.

We accept the invitation to walk together with First Nations people towards a more positive future for Australia, as described in the Uluru Statement From The Heart.

Jo Prendergast

Jo Ghastly The Cool Mum (NZ)

As seen on ABC and Channel Nine.

Bring your teens, your mum, your gran!

The Cool Mum is an award-winning, clean comedy show which has sold out around New Zealand and at Adelaide Fringe!

Jo Ghastly is bringing her world-class personal development seminar to Melbourne to help you become the coolest of cool parents (seriously, she's on TikTok so you know she's got the credentials!).

Don't have any kids of your own? Jo will be teaching you how to unlock the inner cool potential of your own parents (and maybe validate your choice to never have children...).

Jo is a New Zealand-based comedian, improviser and actor. By day she also works as psychiatrist, author and film producer Dr Jo Prendergast. Jo is often tired.

Jo’s new release teenage mental health book for parents When Life Sucks was released by Harper Collins in September 2023.

Jo was nominated for Breakthrough Comedian of the year at the NZ Comedy Guild Awards 2020.  She was longlisted for the prestigious Billy T Award in September 2023. Her multi-award-winning debut comedy show The Cool Mum sold out the entire season with five-star reviews at Adelaide Fringe  and the NZ International Comedy Festival in 2023.

Screen appearances include feature film The Stolen and TVNZ’s Adam and Eve Show. Jo has recently featured as a guest on a wide range of TV, radio and podcasts in NZ and Australia including 'The Jess Rowe Big Talk Show', The Project, Channel 9 Today Extra, ABC Weekend Breakfast and TVNZ Breakfast.
