Rhys Matthewson’s stage presence is so warm, he gave each audience member our own battery-operated hand fan as we walked in (and definitely not because his room at Motley Wherehaus felt like a sauna).

At the core of ‘Big Mistake’ is a beautifully woven story about Rhys’ relapse from sobriety, incited rather innocently by some improper lifting techniques.

He also takes the time to share his technique for eating pancakes (rolled up and swallowed without chewing like a seagull), how he often feels like Princess Diana, and even whip out a note-perfect impression of Dave Hughes.

Throughout the show, Rhys was more than willing to destroy the positive energy he’d built up for a moment of vulnerability, knowing he's got what it takes to bring us right back up again.

And if that fails, the audience is given one opportunity to scream out “RODEO!” and Rhys will ride a rickety wooden stool like a mechanical bull for at least 10 seconds to bring the laughter back up.

 Use yours carefully xx

Rhys Matthewson is performing at The Motley Wherehaus, 9:15pm.
