Sez - Sorry, What?
Cover blown, I repeat, cover blown!!
I suppose I brought it upon myself by sitting in the front row, but some perfectly innocent crowd work from Sez midway through her set led to the discovery that I was in fact.. A REVIEWER!
Completely enraptured by her bubbly chaos, brutally honest self-reflection, and the beautiful reverence with which she plays the harpsichord, I had been having a wonderful time!
With 30 more minutes of material to get through and the sudden threat of a bad review sitting less than a metre from you, many performers would buckle under the pressure, but not Sez!
Her increasingly comical desperation to pull out all the stops and make sure I was pleased at all times only emboldened her material, and my fellow audience members loved being brought along for the ride.
It wasn’t until after the show that I was able to give her a huge hug, and my assurance that any comedian who can rhyme sommelier with chlamydia has nothing to fear.
Sez is performing at The Victoria Hotel, 7:40pm (6:40pm on Sunday).
