Seeing Jenny Tian perform feels like hanging out with a cool older cousin (and not just because we’re both Chinese Australian). Her anecdotal comedy invites audiences in, giving the illusion of being off-the-cuff and carefree even when every comedic beat is carefully structured.

In 'When Life Gives You Oranges', Jenny catches us up on life in New York City, before diving into a recount of her last relationship. Along the way, we stop by the cutest ethnicity and the sound Jenny’s hips make when having sex, all delivered with Jenny's precise comedic timing.

The show is tightly structured, with Tian’s command of the stage capturing the audience’s attention as the story unfolds with a certain ‘he did what’ energy. Writing a comedy show that wins over a crowded room in the Melbourne Town Hall – that’s one way to defeat an evil ex.

Melbourne International Comedy Festival acknowledges the traditional custodians of the lands upon which we work and live. We acknowledge the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples' spirit, imagination and rich history of storytelling and humour that is an inspiration to all Australians.

We accept the invitation to walk together with First Nations people towards a more positive future for Australia, as described in the Uluru Statement From The Heart.
