James Collopy - Going Somewhere?
One man. One walking pad. A delightful array of characters from one of Melbourne’s most brilliant comedic minds. Being able to walk for 50 minutes in front of a live audience sounds like a humiliation ritual to me personally, but to do so while executing a high-quality solo sketch show is actually extraordinary. James Collopy takes on this impressive challenge with ease, and his natural gift as a performer shines here wonderfully. He traverses through the comedic zingers of Going Somewhere? with affability and charm, exquisitely tip-toeing the tonal balance between goofy and charismatic.
There’s a sense of mischief afoot (a walking reference!) throughout James's character work. Everything works in tandem to create a masterpiece of theatre, from the beautifully evocative soundscapes, sharp writing and expert bodywork - just the slightest twitch of a smirk or a shake of his limbs erupts into huge laughs from the audience. Collopy has been moving up the ranks as one to watch for a while, so invest now before he becomes a force to be reckoned with.
