Years ago, James Mustapic was trolled online for comments he made on national TV, and he has felt internally stagnant ever since. But not anymore - he is getting back on the titular saddle and cantering towards inner growth. A wholesome and hopeful premise for the audience to get invested in that is pleasantly propelled by Mustapic’s signature dry wit, genuinely sweet archival footage and a superb slide deck full of low-fi visual goofs.

Mustapic is no doubt talented with great laugh-out-loud punchlines, but the structure and pacing do feel off-kilter, with dragging anecdotes and callbacks that don’t resonate as meaningfully as likely intended. There seems to be a slight dissonance on Mustapic’s end to let the audience fully in, which is ultimately a shame. When his sincerity shines through and the veil of irony is lifted, the show is able to sparkle most. More glimpses of Mustapic’s genuine nature and good-heartedness will bring this solid hour into top-tier shape.
