Melbourne International Comedy Festival acknowledges the traditional custodians of the lands upon which we work and live. We acknowledge the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples' spirit, imagination and rich history of storytelling and humour that is an inspiration to all Australians.

We accept the invitation to walk together with First Nations people towards a more positive future for Australia, as described in the Uluru Statement From The Heart.

Tom W Clarke Bruce: Misadventures From A Lap Around Australia

Tom W Clarke Bruce: Misadventures From A Lap Around Australia

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to stop being a grown up for a bit? Why the gap year is reserved for those fresh out of high school, wasted on those yet to be afflicted by the mundane horrors of middle management and health insurance?

Tom W Clarke can relate. So in 2023, he and his wife packed up their life in Melbourne and their four-year-old and jammed into a campervan for a year of adventure and silliness.

An extraordinary lap around Australia ensued. Out on the road and out of their depth, they laughed through some wild moments – a gang of mafioso emus, a campground of Russian invaders and a breakdown on the edge of the world.

This show is for the wanderers, the adventurers, the closet nudists, the nature-lovers and the child inside each of us that just wants to play.

Tom W Clarke is a comedian and writer who has performed on stages around the country. He is also the author of Shoulda Been Higher: A Celebration of 30 Years of Triple J’s Hottest 100, published by Melbourne Books in October 2023.

He lives on the NSW south coast with his brilliant wife and sparkling five-year-old son. He can usually be found shouting about the superiority of instant coffee, thinking too hard and often about pop culture, and splashing inelegantly in the ocean.
