Melbourne International Comedy Festival acknowledges the traditional custodians of the lands upon which we work and live. We acknowledge the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples' spirit, imagination and rich history of storytelling and humour that is an inspiration to all Australians.

We accept the invitation to walk together with First Nations people towards a more positive future for Australia, as described in the Uluru Statement From The Heart.

John Peacock Carpet Diem

The Comedy Commune (CANCELLED)

John Peacock Carpet Diem

in 2012, John Peacock was Australian Carpet Cleaner of the Year. Now he's a middle-aged man with a bee in his bonnet and several mental health issues. He may also be gluten intollerant.

In 2015, aged 44, John worked out what he wanted to do when he grew up. Unfortunately he is yet to grow up and remains largely unfulfilled.

Spending long periods of time alone with his wand (carpet cleaning wand) in his hand gives John time to think about the world. It's not perfect, the world that is, but he has a plan. It's not much of a plan in fairness and basically involves telling dick jokes to strangers in an attempt to avoid the hard work that would invariably be involved in actually making the world a better place.

Carpet Diem tells the story of a mid-life career change – the transition from carpet cleaner to comedian.  A story of working out who and what you love, following dreams, mental health struggles, self employment and removing coffee spills from white carpets. You won't believe what he found in a laundry tub.

John Peacock is an experienced comic, much sought-after MC, award-winning public speaker, magazine columnist and enduring anchor of breakfast radio on the iconic Byron Bay FM. A modern day Man For All Seasons, except for summer, which he finds a bit too hot and sweaty.

Carpet Diem premiered to rave reviews and a sell out at The Good Chat Comedy Festival in Brisbane. The show has been seen and loved by audiences at Perth FRINGE WORLD and Adelaide Fringe and has toured nationally in 2023/24.
