Melbourne International Comedy Festival acknowledges the traditional custodians of the lands upon which we work and live. We acknowledge the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples' spirit, imagination and rich history of storytelling and humour that is an inspiration to all Australians.

We accept the invitation to walk together with First Nations people towards a more positive future for Australia, as described in the Uluru Statement From The Heart.

Bec Sandys Off the Rails (New Zealand)

Bec Sandys Off the Rails (NZ)

From 'Vitamin A' antics at Woolshed parties to Y2K revelations, Off the Rails is the new wildly hilarious show from Kiwi comedian Bec Sandys.

Known for her razor-sharp wit and unapologetic humour, Bec has been lighting up the comedy scene in Aotearoa and beyond. A rising star in the comedy world, Bec has earned her stripes as an opening act for some of the most beloved comedians here and across the ditch, like comedy legends Urzila Carlson and Nazeem Hussain. Urzila herself describes Bec as "one of the funniest comics in New Zealand".

A natural performer hailing from small town New Zealand 'Ashvegas', Bec burst onto the New Zealand comedy scene in 2017 with her brutally honest and hilarious storytelling. Drawing on her colourful palette of life experiences, she paints a picture of life as it truly is – up and down, absurd and bloody funny!

A self-proclaimed cricket tragic, Bec is part of the extremely popular Alternative Commentary Collective team alongside some of New Zealand's top TV, radio and sport personalities. Her first television comedy debut was on The Project NZ and she has been a writer for NZ comedy panel show 7 Days since 2019.

Bec made her Melbourne International Comedy Festival debut in 2023 with Happy Cabbage, a show that played to sold-out audiences in New Zealand and Australia. She returns to Melbourne International Comedy Festival in 2024 with Off the Rails, which debuted to a full house in Christchurch in September 2023.

No stranger to recognition and accolades, over the past few years Bec has been nominated for a variety of NZ Comedy Guild Awards, including Breakthrough Comedian of the Year, Best Producer and Outstanding Contribution to the Comedy Industry. It's a testament to her growing influence and her ever-evolving relatable comedic style.

With her undeniable stage presence and remarkable ability to turn ordinary life into a rich tapestry of comedy, Bec is one comedian to keep an eye on!

So buckle up and prepare for an evening that's Off the Rails because Bec has a heavy foot and likes to get air over the speed bumps! Grab your tickets early, because this is one comedy show you won't want to miss.

'Hilariously masterful with her weaving of punchy one-liners and seamless storytelling, Sandys achieved the ultimate goal in any show, the crowd left wanting more.' NZ Herald

'Sandys’ is a fantastic storyteller, skillfully mining her life for humour, managing to weave in a fitting quip or comment on popular culture.' Speakeasy NZ
